iPhone’s monthly shipments in China fell by 33%

Official data shows that Apple’s iPhone shipments in China in February declined by about 33% year-on-year.

Data shows that due to the late arrival of the Spring Festival, the shipments of foreign brand smart phones last month were only about 2.4 million units, and Apple accounts for a considerable proportion of them. It is also the only overseas company with a considerable market share. February saw the second consecutive month of decline in iPhone shipments. According to the data of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the total shipments of iPhones in January were about 5.5 million units, a year-on-year decrease of about 39%.

Since the launch of the latest generation model in September last year, iPhone’s sales in China have not picked up much. Huawei is a strong competitor of Apple in the high-end mobile phone market, taking away the company’s market share. The slowdown in iPhone sales also prompted Apple to offer rare promotional discounts in January.

An Apple spokesperson has not yet responded to requests for comment.

The entire Chinese smart phone market also shrunk by nearly one-third in February, indicating that consumers are increasingly reluctant to spend money on non-essential items. Analysts still predict that sales will rise for the remainder of this year, but iPhone sales will continue to deteriorate.
