Foreign media reported that the short-video platform TikTok sent notices to some US users, urging them to call senators and ask them to vote against a bill targeting TikTok.
Only sent to users of voting age
In the notice, TikTok urges users to tell senators how important TikTok is to them and ask them to vote against it, otherwise TikTok may be closed in the future. The notice also allows users to enter their zip code to find the phone number of the senator. A TikTok spokesperson said the notice was only sent to users who had reached voting age; the company will continue to inform the community how the bill will affect users and what actions users can take to make their voices heard.
In fact, before the vote in the US House of Representatives, TikTok also sent a similar notice to users. The House of Representatives passed a bill last Wednesday (13th) requiring ByteDance to divest TikTok within about six months after the bill takes effect, otherwise users will be banned from downloading in the US.
