TikTok suspends the reward feature of TikTok Lite.

The overseas version of Chinese video sharing platform Douyin, TikTok, said that while trying to address the concerns of the European Union, TikTok will voluntarily suspend the reward feature of its new application, TikTok Lite.
TikTok said on the social media platform X that it has been seeking for constructive communication with the European Commission and other regulatory authorities. Therefore, while addressing the issues raised by them, it voluntarily suspends the reward feature in TikTok Lite.
TikTok launched TikTok Lite in France and Spain in the middle of this month. Users can earn points by watching short videos, giving likes, and inviting friends to join the platform, which can be exchanged for cash vouchers or gift cards. The European Commission is concerned whether the new application will make children addicted and has asked TikTok to address related concerns, otherwise the feature will be temporarily suspended.
Internal Market Commissioner of the European Union, Thierry Breton, has launched two investigations into TikTok. In a statement, he said that the investigation into the risk of addiction on the TikTok platform is still ongoing, including investigating whether the launch of TikTok Lite complies with the provisions of the Digital Services Act (DSA).
